Pareece Moss

A graduate of Agape Christian School and she is the daughter of Patrick Moss of Nassau and Dellareece Pinder-Moss of Treasure Cay. Pareece is also the recipient of the Junkanoo that Abaco Pathfinders and the Ministry of Tourism partnered on. Our sister city of St. Augustine, Florida, wanted to provide assistance to an Abaco student with a scholarship to Flagler college. Pareece started in the Fall of 2009 and is studying Economics.

Nadira Kawalram receiving on behalf of her son, Ron. Ron is currently attending Centennial College Ontario Canada.  He is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing). His parents are Roodatram and Nadira Kawalram of Treasure Cay. Ron is enjoying machine shop where he is gaining hands on experience dealing with the machines and making the projects required for the courses.

Taj Anderson of Treasure Cay, graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Forest Heights Academy. He plans to become a doctor and has chosen to begin this journey at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He plans to begin in January 2010. Taj's proud mother is Marsha Roberts of Treasure Cay.

Adrianna Phillpot of Man-O-War Cay is a graduate of Forest Heights Academy Class of 2009. Adrianna is the daugther of George and Melissa Phillpot. She plans to attend Berry College in Georgia. Because of the level of involvement in her community, Adrianna was also selected for the Monty Albury Award for Excellence.

Shalna Blanc is a 2009 graduate of Abaco Central High School. She is from Marsh Harbour and plans to attend the University of South Florida in Januray 2010 where she'll study Nursing.

 

Elaine_Fenelus

Elaine Fenelus of Cooper's Town graduated as Valedictorian of S.C. Bootle's graduating class of 2009. Elaine plans to attend the College of The Bahamas where she will pursue a degree in Mathematics.

 

 

Nasasha Bootle is a member of the graduating class of Forest Heights Academy. She plans to attend the College of the Bahamas.

 
Pathfinders begins offering scholarships

A new organization called Pathfinders has the goal of providing college funding for needy students and is fast gaining the interest of local and second home owners in. Hope Town and held its first meeting in late July. Although in its early stages, Pathfinders hopes to identify young talented students for scholarships in both academic and vocational areas. Applicants are welcomed from every sector of the society regardless of ethnic origins. The criterion will be ability. Potential recipients will be encouraged not only to attend academic institutions but also technical schools.

First Year Success

Abaco Pathfinders’ Scholarship Foundation, in its first year of operation, has enjoyed great success.  Eleven scholarships have been awarded to local students to help them continue their formal education.  This success is because of the generosity of local residents, visitors, businesses, and others who have come together in fund raising efforts. Keora Brown, whose goal is to open a gynecological clinic in Abaco, will begin her college education in January. Tabitha Cash will be studying  business at Valdosta State University. Erica Cox, of Copper’s Town, will be preparing to be one of the few women in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration when she attends the American Trades Institute in Fort Lauderdale this June.

Couple lost in storm live in Abaco youth

Buddy and Kay Smith, longtime members of the Bahamas' sailing community who were killed in Belize while participating in rescue efforts during Hurricane Keith, are now being memorialized by their friends. Start up funds have been made available, and donations are being solicited, to begin the "Buddy & K Memorial Scholarship" The first of the "Buddy & K" scholarships will be awarded during the 2002 academic year. Pathfinders will be responsible for administering the funds and awarding select scholarships. Full details concerning applications will be made in the future. Those wishing to make donations specifically to the "Buddy & K Scholarship" only need to make the notation at the bottom of the check.
